The Flu

I've missed school for 3 days now because of the flu.  It's not fun to have it...
...by myself, so I decided to share it with my mom.

Grief and Joy

How does a kid process grief? How do you even understand the loss of someone? On Friday, my mom picked me up from school and told me that my other lola, Lola Aurora, my Lolo's sister, died that morning.  I asked how she died and she said that she thinks that her heart was just really tired and it stopped. She died peacefully in her sleep.  She was 80 years old.  Later that evening, we headed over to Lola Aurora's house where the family decided to meet.  My cousins, aunts, and uncles were there.  There was confusion and tremendous sadness.  There was crying, but there was also laughter because we're celebrating her long life and remembered good memories.  As I'm surrounded by this, I typed this on my iPod.  It's the only way I could sort my feelings out.

Here's a picture of us with mommy.  I was a few days old here and she held me.
Here's our last family picture with her on Christmas Eve.  She's sitting in the middle of the family in a red jacket.

Goodbye Lola Aurora.  Although we grieve your loss, we also rejoice because you are now reunited with God, with the love of your life, Lolo Bert, and your beloved daughter, Mariles.  I know you will be watching over all of us. God bless and may you rest in peace.  We love you.

First Day of 2013

 It's all about family.
The Kaplans.
And another one.  You have to understand. Our family is like the paparazzi when it comes to holiday pictures.
The big family on New Year's Eve. We're trying to pose in front of a makeshift photo booth in my uncle's garage, but obviously, there's too many of us.  Haha!  And that's NOT all of us, by the way. (All photos courtesy of my Uncle Gel. He's sitting in front with the pointy hat.)
Uh...not sure what's going on with the green guy next to us.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Final Post of 2012

Well, here we are.  Another busy and memorable year. This is the final post for the year 2012.  These are some random pictures taken this year.  I wish my mom had more time to post and tell more stories (because I'm a hoot, remember?), but she has been extremely busy.  But that's okay.  So here are some pictures to share.
Mommy found me in this ensemble during the summer.  I love print, I guess.
 Riding my first real bike.
This is a random picture taken at Lolo and Lola's place.  That's Boo, their dog.  She likes daddy. And I like to hang on daddy.

We celebrated Lolo and Lola's 47th wedding anniversary at this restaurant called The Stinking Rose.  This picture was taken outside of the restaurant and me and Kayla going on a double piggy back ride. It's a restaurant specializing in garlic.  At first I was like "ewwww!"  Then the garlic bread and the cloves of garlic in olive oil and herbs came.  I was gobbling that up and the garlic like there's no tomorrow.  Then the garlicy pasta came and I ate that too.  Silly me.  So I found out I like garlic.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY LOLO and LOLA!
We had our Winter Performance Celebration at school. These are the first graders.
We sang 4 holiday songs.  We were rockin'.
That's me in the polka dots dress.
Lolo and Lola were there to watch.
Celebrated my friend Ellie's (center) birthday at Jump N' Jammin.  Always a treat to go in this giant jungle gym.
I went ice skating for the first time.  It was awesome!
Pershing Square in my bohemian dress after skating.
Dinner at this Korean/Japanese hole-in-the-wall place.  Everything you see in the picture is the whole restaurant (plus 2 more tables behind us and that's it).  The food is yummylicious.
We celebrated our Christmas with our big family.  We're a fun bunch.
After a long night of partying, whoo boy, was I pooped.  There was no way I was going to pose for another picture. So this is all you're getting.
Christmas Day with the four of us.

Wishing you renewed hope this holiday season and may the new year bring you good health, peace of mind, and good cheer.

Happy 2013!

Goofy Girls

Did I tell you I love my little cousin?  We have a lot of fun together.
