The girl and the city

Playing tourist in our own city.
For you skaters out there, my daddy says this is a famous skate location.
For those of you who've seen the film (500) Days of Summer, the following area may look familiar to you.
Hope you had a good weekend like I did.

Quiet Time

Mornings are peaceful.  Dog quietly observing kid.  Kid quietly walking about
still waking up. It's sort of downhill after that.

Climb and toss

I'm having fun in my swimming class. Today, we went up on the diving board. Check it out

I hesitated a little so the lifeguard dude sorta tossed me out to my teacher.  Cool, huh?

Chug-a-lug

Do you have a favorite cup or mug?
Currently, this is my favorite. My mom and I were doing our usual Target run one day and we passed by the kiddie cups and things.  I saw this one and I had to have it.  I love polka dots.  My mom gave in for a good reason and really, it was just two bucks.
This is daddy's.  No actually he doesn't have a favorite. He just grabs whatever
cup is handy, which happens to be MINE...all the time....and that's
why my mom had to get me the polka dots one.
This is mommy's favorite coffee cup.  She's had it for a long, long time and tonight, she accidentally dropped it in the sink and broke it.  Man, she loved that mug. She used it to compliment her penchant for coffee. Maybe now that it's gone, she may not drink as much coffee.  We'll see.

So do you have a favorite cup or mug?

Funny Face

I make funny faces sometimes and make my parents laugh.
This is my I-know-I'm-cute-so-get-over-it face.

Backyard Surprise

I love surprises.  When we think everything's gonna wilt because of the heat, our backyard somehow surprises us with random flowers.  It's the first time we've seen
these sprout out.  I guess they're the daylily variety.  Pretty, huh?

Maya's Movie Corner

I love watching movies.  I've seen many Hayao Miyazaki movies, but some of them are creepy like "Spirited Away".  My parents would try to stop the DVD, but I insist on watching it.  So I watch creepy movies like this:

Some of the movies I've seen by Hayao Miyazaki in the order I liked them:
1) My Neighbor Totoro - 10 thumbs up
2) Spirited Away

Other movies I like and have seen a hundred times and are still on regular rotation:

Movies that I'd like to see again when the DVD comes out:

One film that I recently watched was "The Weeping Camel". It was really good. The film was set in Mongolia and it follows the story of a family of nomadic shepherds in the Gobi Desert and how they tried to help a new born camel be accepted by his mother.  I was really sad when the mother abandoned the baby.  What mom would do that?  After watching the film, I asked my mom if she's going to abandon me like that. She assured me that that's not gonna happen.  So it's all good.

My parents like watching movies too.  One time they watched "Paranormal Activity" and my mom hid behind the pillow just like me.

Movie Night

It's movie night and tonight, we're watching The Red Balloon
It's about a boy, Pascal, and his red ballon that follows him around Paris, like a dog.
I want a balloon like that.  Kinda sad in the end, but all the balloons in Paris
came to the rescue.  Really cool.

Summer Spideys

Mom and I came home one afternoon from work and school.  Everything was fine.  I grabbed my toys and started playing with them. My mom put away groceries that we just got from the store.  Then suddenly, I heard "FUDDDGGGGE!!" from the kitchen.  I peeked in there and saw my mom sorta frozen in a position like a Pointer dog.  She's staring at something on the kitchen window.  Eh, whatever, I went back to playing.  Then I heard her taking all kinds of cleaning agents out from under the sink and she's walking back and forth.  I kept playing.  Then she grabbed a bag of chips, walked backwards into the living room, sat down on the couch as she popped chips in her mouth while never taking her eyes off on something in the kitchen.

Mom:  "Hey Maya, there's a huge spider in the kitchen. Go take a look."

I looked and oh yes, the thing is probably as big as my hand if stretched out. I think it's a grass spider. It made it's way in the house somehow.  I suspect it hitched a ride on Charlie while he napped under the bushes in the yard.  I wanted to post the spider pictures, but since my mom is my blog secretary, she refuses to do so.  It gives her the hibbie gibbies.  So go on the link instead if you wanna know how they look like.

Mom: "What should I do?" (scratching my head, I'm the 3 year old here)
Me: "You should snap it." (smacking the coffee table to demonstrate).
Mom: "What if I'm scared of it?" (still munching on chips)
Me: "You shouldn't be scared.  It doesn't bite."
Mom: "Should I wait for daddy?"
Me: "No. Go snap it."
Mom: "But I don't want to smash it."
Me: "Then spray it with this." (handing her one of the cleaning agents she already took out)
Mom: "What do I do with it afterwards?"
Me: "Well, you pick it up, put it in the trash, daddy will take it out, and the garbage truck will take it away."
Mom: (looks at me, blinking, while still chewing a mouthful of chips).

Then she gets up, grabs the bottle of wrath, and starts spraying.  The thing would not die.  Took about 3-4 types of solutions to suffocate the thing.  It finally succumbed to a lung-full of 409 and dropped behind one of the little kitchen displays mom puts on the window ledge.  She then texted daddy and told him he needs to retrieve it when he gets home.

My mom's weird sometimes.

Hollywood Bowl

Gustavo Dudamel conducts Georges Bizet's Carmen
My parents, grandparents, I went to the Hollywood Bowl.
I brought my other friends so they can enjoy the music too.
We brought food, drinks, and snacks and everyone had a great time.
The the opera singers and the orchestra were amazing. I conducted to the tunes many times on my seat, which made my parents, grandparents, and I think some of our fellow audience laugh.  It was a lovely evening.  It helped that I recognize the music.  Thanks Little Einsteins.

Library

I got my very own library card recently.
I can now choose from a vast selection of children's books in the library...
...and could spend hours browsing, if allowed.
I checked out my first five books and will definitely be checking out many, many more.
I love books!
My favorite right now is "Olivia and the Missing Toy" by Ian Falconer.
Kinda spooky but really cool.
