Almost Spring

Spring's around the corner. I could tell. Various flowers are starting to bloom in the backyard.

There's a big wall of these flowers outside of Maya's room. Its warm lilac-like fragrance always makes its way into her little boudoir. Hmmm... Just reminds me of a warm spring day.

These white flowers pop up like clock work around the same time every year. Never fails.

Something to spice up the greenery.

Even my earring tree is blooming!

In the warm afternoon, the kid and doggy were chilaxing outside and Maya pointed upward.

Several hunded feet above us was this hawk-like birdie suspended in the air. It's amazing how they do that. I think it was eyeing Charlie's toy hedgehog. Just my guess. It's his most favorite toy from his puppyhood (it get's pretty yucky). See how he's guarding it in the picture above? No way that birdie's gettin' it.

Metro Choo-Choo

Maya has a thing for trains, so we decided to take her on a short ride on the Metro to Pasadena. We've been talking about it for a couple of days. She was pretty excited.

Gonna buy tickets.
Daddy, the tour guide, while crossing the bridge.
There's the train.

Here we go...

Of course, we had to try on different seats. Good thing it wasn't crowded. This is better.

So I can make weird faces at my kid.

She sat quietly next to daddy, wide-eyed, and absorbed everything.
When you see things through the eyes of a child, you have a greater appreciation of whatever it is.

Keeping a positive outlook on things

The kid woke me up at 6:30am (on a Sunday) hollering she peed on her bed. Great. I looked outside and it's another dreary day. I was gonna be depressed and stuff, but then thought, "Well at least it's not 10 degrees, raining, and we don't need to shovel snow." We are lucky here in Southern California, so I should just shut up. With that in mind I cheerily (snort*) looked forward to doing laundry. Got her changed and stumbled around the house gathering more dirty laundry. Fed her milk and bread, made my coffee, my toast, sat quietly in my chair bleary eyed, and waited for Sunday do its thing...at 7:00am.
There are monsters among the dirty laundry.
Following mommy around.
Charlie's like, "Why am I up and having my picture taken this early?"
Kid insisted on wearing a cute skirt and flip flops on a cool morning.
I'm too tired to argue, so whatever.
Then running around in it.
Someone's been burying something in the backyard.
That early??

Made more blueberry muffins. I need therapy...

Madeleine Peyroux streaming from my dirty iPod most of the morning.
I think today is gonna be okay.

The trouble with trouble

I was doing chores around the house and Maya was playing in her room. As I passed by, I heard her talking to Tinkerbell. From the tone of her voice, it sounded like Tinkerbell was in big trouble. So I paused and listened:

Maya: “Sit. Right. There.”

(Did I tell you she kinda talks like William Shatner?)

Tinkerbell: “- - - “
(Tinkerbell doesn't talk, you know that.)

Maya: “Don’t. Do. That. Okay, Tinkerbell?”

Tinkerbell: “- - - “

Maya: “Do you understand? Sit. Right. There.”

Tinkerbell: “- - -“

I stood there blinking. This sounded very familiar.
Then it dawned on me. She's imitating her mother.

Maya Tidbit

Maya likes to floss...and she likes to store it in her sweater pocket after use. Gross. Don't even try to take it. She'll get really mad and will call you incoherent words only a two year old can understand. Am still working on explaining the throwing-it-after-use part and that she'll get a new one everytime. But for some reason, she gets attached to the one she just used...
